Famed Broadway publicist David Merrick commissioned the life-size statue, and placed it in a well-travelled section of Central Park; as a well-crafted publicity stunt designed to promote the star of his current Burlesque musical: ‘FANNY’..

Willie began his Burlesque career with his brother Eugene in 1902. He would pass away in ‘49 at the age of 62..

Yvonne Adair

Yvonne began her showgirl career in Burlesque, dancing alongside her sister Jeanne.. But by the mid-40’s, she’d transitioned to performing exclusively in legitimate Broadway musicals like: “Lend An Ear”, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”, and “Cinderella”..

This promo photo from ‘56 shows how Yvonne would’ve appeared when she performed the role of “Florida” in the Burlesque musical: “Strip For Action”; which opened on March 17th at the ‘Schubert Theatre’..
