After Mayor LaGuardia’s crackdown on Burlesque in NYC,— promoters scrambled to re-bill all of their shows strictly as “Vaudeville” productions.. Venue operators had to commit to shows with cleaner jokes and more conservative costumes, before the city would grant them a license to remain open..

The venue was one of 6 venues shut down in the wake of Mayor LaGuardia’s crackdown on nudity in NYC.. Burlesque promoters circumvented this mandate by dressing their chorus girls in bigger costumes, and re-billing their shows as "Vaudeville" productions:  More singing,— less nudity!

A poster for the 1937 film: “Harlem On The Prairie”; starring singer/actor: Herb Jeffries.. In 1959, Jeffries would marry popular stripper Tempest Storm; fathering a daughter named "Patty" with her.. Remarkably, he is still alive and will turn 100 years old this September 24th!
